Many of you may have seen my recent blog post on my HUGE Pinterest accomplishment of reaching 1MILLION monthly views on Pinterest!

With that, many questions might come up such as:

  • does Pinterest pay you for views?

  • how do you make money on Pinterest?

  • how much does Pinterest pay for 1 million views?

  • can you earn money from Pinterest in the UK?

  • how do beginners make money on Pinterest?

I mean, rightfully so!

We all want to achieve our ultimate dream of becoming our own bosses, running our Blog or online business facelessly and making money online so we can quit the 9-to-5 and have ownership over our life.

That being said, some of you may have noticed that I haven't spoken about money or how much money I have made online from Pinterest or Blogging.

does Pinterest pay you for views?

The simple answer is NO.

Now, don't get discouraged quite yet! It's not like Tiktok or Youtube, where once you reach a threshold of followers or views, you get paid. BUT it is hugely valuable if you have a Blog or an online business that you want to promote and bring traction to.

You might be wondering "well, what's the point? how do you make money with Pinterest then?".

Well most people make money from Pinterest INDIRECTLY.

I will run you through how you can USE Pinterest to make money, without actually being directly paid by the platform.

indirect earnings

This form of earning money from Pinterest is how MOST people use Pinterest, and it's Pinning to get viewers and followers to go onto your Blog or online business, to THEN earn money from there.

For example, let me give you myself as an example.

  • Currently, what I have is a Blog and a Pinterest page

  • I am using my Pinterest to bring traffic to my Blog, which I track through outbound clicks and impressions (more on this here!)

  • The blog views I get from my Pinterest will mean I can monetise my Blog through Ad Agencies.

  • Once I reach the eligibility criteria of blog views and engagement, which Pinterest is helping me with, I can apply to Ad agencies to get paid for my blog content.

This is ONE EXAMPLE of many others to use Pinterest to make money online; indirectly.

And yes, I could just not use Pinterest but organic ranking on Google would take me a lot longer to monetise my Blog. Using Pinterest is CRUCIAL to get my Blog views and engagement up.

Many other indirect ways of making money with Pinterest could be by directing Pinterest viewers to your:

  • Shopify store to sell print-on-demand merch products (this is an affiliate link)

  • Etsy store to sell digital products, like printables, wall art, planners

  • Youtube channel for your content creation to reach the criteria to get monetised

However, there are some ways you can make money on Pinterest directly.

direct earnings

This way is mostly through affiliate links.

The same way you can use Pinterest to get viewers to go to your Blog (like me), your online stores (like Shopify or Etsy), your other content platforms (like Youtube or Tiktok), you can also use Pinterest to direct viewers to your affiliate link.

  • Very simply, an affiliate link is a link where you are promoting a product or service.

  • If a Pinterest viewer clicks that link and makes a purchase, or signs up for a trial (depending on the agreement of that company), you get a % of the profits.

  • This is called "making a commission", which is how you make money with the affiliate link

"How to use affiliate links on Pinterest?" you may ask.

Well, you would just need to:

  1. Know what product or service you want to promote (or niche; for example: health and fitness, softwares, beauty)

  2. Apply for the affiliate program (most of the time, they ask for a website. This is where you put your Pinterest link)

  3. Once approved, you copy-and-paste your affiliate link from the program's dashboard

  4. Attach your affiliate link to the Pin you post

Simply follow the step-by-step, and it's actually really simple. Don't let yourself get too overwhelmed, just follow each step and start with 1 product, service or program you want to promote.

Then add more as you go, if you wish.

For ethics, it's always best to MENTION that your link is an affiliate one for transparency and trust with your audience. You can do this on Pinterest, by simply adding a "#ad" or adding a phrase to say "this is an affiliate link".

Most affiliate marketing on Pinterest I see is fashion by attaching the products to your Pin. I saw this A LOT when searching for "hot pregnancy outfits" or "pregnancy holiday outfits"; as I get ready for my first holiday abroad pregnancy soon (post coming soon).

I have a Pinterest Board saved for anyone who's interested here!

This is when you see something like the below:

^ on the right-hand side, you see a lot of recommendations or "Shop the look". These are all affiliate links for products attached. Once you make a purchase, through those links, the creator of the Pin earns a commission OR IN OTHER WORDS: money made directly through Pinterest, using affiliate marketing!

Then, it's just a matter of getting views which I give you my exact and easy step-by-step blueprint for FREE, in another blog post, here!

the Pinterest Creator Fund UK

So, now that we know it is not possible to make money from Pinterest, but rather has to be through the ways discussed above (which is still great!):

I wanted to touch-on the Pinterest Creator Fund, specifically in the UK, since that is where I am based (London-girlie) and what it's about?

Usually when we hear "creator fund" we immediately think it's a way to get paid as a Creator, right? As with Tiktok.

But with Pinterest, it doesn't mean the same thing, sadly.

The Pinterest Creator Fund was a fund back in 2021, where creators could apply to be considered to get cash reward to elevate their content and motivate creators. However, this was mostly with the intention to help financially support creators on the platform with cash rewards to:

  • hire team members

  • buy better equipment

  • advance content-creating practices

Therefore, it wasn't really to pay creators for views on Pinterest, it was mostly to help Creators get better support for their content on Pinterest.

Therefore, no, we cannot get paid simply for our Pinterest content and views in the UK. At least, not currently.

In my research of any other opportunities to be monetised DIRECTLY from Pinterest, I can only see:

  • paid partnership tool: where you can tag a brand in your Pin, and then the brand must approve your tag. To make money this way, the brand would need to want to use your Pin to create an Idea ad which would mean you could get some commission from the ad the brand generates using your Pin. I KNOW; not very easy or straight-forward.

  • tagging products: which we have already spoken about via affiliate links and tagging the product to pin

I'm not hopeful that Pinterest will end-up paying creators for their content and views on Pinterest, since I think they would have done-so by now, if they were to; with all the emerging paid content funds by other social media like Tiktok and Instagram.

That's why if you choose to use Pinterest, you need to first know that:

  1. Pinterest does not pay creators for their content or views, and

  2. You would need to have a specific strategy and purpose for Pinterest to bring you value for your Blog or online business

final thoughts

It might be discouraging for some to get 1 MILLION views on Pinterest, and contribute so greatly to the platform as a creator, and NOT get paid on Pinterest for your views.

But for me, it is a HUGE achievement in my digital marketing journey, and is something I am genuinely SO happy and excited about, because my strategy is different.

That's why I am emphasising on the importance of all you girlies knowing the true nature of Pinterest when it comes to monetisation and knowing HOW you can choose to use Pinterest to benefit your Blog and online business, to make money online.

I knew this from the start, and chose to use Pinterest to reflect my Blogging goals and online business strategy.

For me, I use Pinterest to grow an audience, build awareness around my brand and Blog 'in her Full Effect', and increase my Blog traffic through the Pinterest viewers who click onto my blog posts linked to the Pins I post. This way I use Pinterest to bring me traffic so that I can monetise my Blog through reaching the viewers I need to apply for Ad agencies (blog post coming soon).

In case you would like to do the same, simply follow along the same strategy. Specially if you would like to remain faceless, like me, then Blogging and Pinterest is amazing for that!

Always stick to what aligns with you, since if you try follow the crowd you most-likely won't follow

through with it, as my many past attempts have taught me in prior side hustles I tried.

Everything is a stepping stone to us becoming better and wiser, in our journey to making money online and becoming our own boss whether its through your Blog (like me!) or any other online business.

Own your Womanhood. Own your Time.
